Avoiding sex had become part of our bedtime routine. Everything else in our relationship was great. It didn’t make sense! Our therapist was so friendly and relaxed about it, they deal with that stuff all the time, we wish we’d got in touch earlier. It ended up being a great decision. We became more comfortable talking to each other about the problems in our sex life. Our therapist helped us communicate better and gave us exercises to do at home.
Keith, Relate Sex Therapy client
Help with sex, also referred to as Sex Therapy, is a service offered by Relate to help with any sexual problems. Sex is an enjoyable and important element of any committed relationship. However, most people encounter sexual problems at some point in their lives. Relate sex therapists understand that you might feel embarrassed about talking about what isn’t working and will help you to talk openly about it. We can help you identify the cause of the issue and build a better and more satisfying sex life together.
All couples go through phases where they don’t have the time or energy for regular sex. If this has become the norm and you would like to rediscover your sex life, Relate’s Sex Therapists can help you.
It’s natural to want better sex with your partner and sometimes there are specific reasons for your difficulties. Don’t be embarrassed about it, ask for help.
What Can I Expect?
Once you’ve made an appointment, you’ll be seen by a sex therapist who will listen sensitively to your description of the problem and gather further information from you to ensure that any suggested treatment meets your needs.
You will also talk about the best times for your sessions, and discuss the cost of Sex Therapy.
If at this stage Sex Therapy is considered appropriate, you will start to see your sex therapist on a weekly to fortnightly basis. All of the work you do in the therapy room is based on talking, however, you are also given homework to do with your partner in the privacy of your own home.
Clients are often amazed at the progress they make and how well they get on with their therapist, once they are over the initial nervousness at talking frankly about their sex life.
How Can Relate Help?
Sex Therapy is incredibly rewarding and most of the couples who’ve used the service said that it improved their sex life.
If you’ve stopped having sex, this programme can help you to rediscover it.
